A national roadshow is stopping off in Blackburn with Darwen next week to raise awareness and increase attendance of cervical screening.

The new ‘Be Cervix Savvy’ roadshow is run by Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust – the only UK charity dedicated to women affected by cervical cancer and cervical abnormalities.

The charity launched the UK’s first ever cancer prevention roadshow last month to raise much needed awareness of cervical screening.

Now it’s travelling across the UK over 16 weeks and Blackburn with Darwen has been chosen as a destination during April.

Trained roadshow volunteers will be on hand to have conversations and hand out information from 10am-4pm on April 10/11 at: Tesco Superstore, Furthergate, BB1 3HF and on April 12/13 on Church Street, Blackburn, BB1 5AF.

The team are especially keen to speak to women from BME backgrounds and those aged over 50.

Councillor Brian Taylor, Assistant Executive Member for Health and Adult Social Care, said:

The Council is delighted to be able to support Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust to deliver their roadshow in Blackburn. The expert team are there to do an important job in spreading this message about cervical cancer screening. I hope it will be successful in helping to improve screening uptake rates.
