East Lancashire CCG Medicines Management Team shortlisted for national health award

The medicines management team based at NHS East Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has been shortlisted for a national health award for the work they have done to improve specialist stoma, continence, wound care and nutritional services in primary care.

The Value in Healthcare Awards, run by the Health Service Journal aims to recognise and reward outstanding efficiency, and improvement in the NHS.

Local GP wins regional award for contribution to cancer services in Pennine Lancashire

A local GP has won a regional award which recognises his contribution to cancer services in Pennine Lancashire. 

 Dr Neil Smith, a Blackburn GP for over 21 years, a Macmillan GP, and the GP lead for cancer commissioning for Blackburn with Darwen and East Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) received the ‘Living the NHS Values’ at the NHS North West Leadership Awards.

Professor Nusrat Husain from Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded the Clinical Research Role Model of the Year award at the prestigious North West Coast Research and Innovation Awards 2017.

East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust (ELHT) has become the first NHS Trust in Lancashire to become a recognised ‘centre of excellence’ for urogynaecology.

Accreditation by the British Society of Urogynaecology means the East Lancashire service based at Burnley General Hospital meets the highest UK standards for urogynaecology.

Landmark Robotic Cancer Surgery at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital

Surgeons at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust this month performed the 100th prostatectomy (removal of the prostate gland) operation using robotic assisted surgery at the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital.

In a milestone for the treatment of prostate cancer in Lancashire, Consultant Urological Surgeon Mr Mohammed Masaarane successfully operated on the 56-year-old patient from Preston using the hospital’s da Vinci® Robot to remove a cancerous prostate gland.
