Volunteer Learning Passport launched across Pennine Lancashire

volunteer_image‘Together A Healthier Future’, the Integrated Health and Care Partnership for Pennine Lancashire, has launched a learning passport specifically for volunteers in health and social care.

The Volunteer Learning Passport, which has been developed and funded in partnership with Health Education England (HEE) e-Learning for Healthcare (e-LfH) is an online training package which is being piloted across Pennine Lancashire.  The passport will allow volunteers to work across multiple organisations without having to repeat the same basic training.  The NHS, Local Authorities, and the Voluntary, Community and Faith Sectors are all taking part in the pilot.  These organisations are:

  • Advocacy Focus
  • Blackburn with Darwen Council
  • Blackburn with Darwen Healthwatch
  • Burnley, Pendle & Rossendale CVS (Community & Voluntary Services)
  • Community CVS (Community & Voluntary Services)
  • East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust
  • Families, Health and Wellbeing Consortium
  • Hyndburn & Ribble CVS (Community & Voluntary Services
  • Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust
  • Lancashire Volunteer Partnership

The online training covers six training sessions:

  1. Health and Safety
  2. Data Security Awareness
  3. Equality, Diversity and Human Rights
  4. Safeguarding Adults
  5. Safeguarding Children
  6. Fire Safety

The training sessions are generic and should be applicable across all sectors.  They form the basic level of mandatory training required and can of course be supplemented by organisations as they wish.  Subject to the success of the pilot project, additional training sessions will be added.

“Volunteering plays a huge role in bringing communities together.  We recognise the immense and valuable contribution that volunteers make in improving the health and wellbeing of people in the area.

“The concept of allowing volunteers to work across multiple organisations without having to repeat the same basic training is both a better use of very valuable resources and an opportunity to standardise the quality of training.”

The Volunteer Learning Passport is one of eight workstreams in the Pennine Lancashire Volunteer Strategy and Action Plan for 2018/19.  You can read the plan here.
